Last week Jisc and Reveal Digital hosted a webinar to introduce Reveal Digital’s library crowdfunding model for open access digital collections to UK Higher Education institutions.
A recording of the webinar can be found here and below are the slides from the webinar.
The webinar provided an overview of Reveal Digital’s cost recovery-open access model and introduced Independent Voices, a collection of North American alternative press periodicals published during the 1960s, ’70s and ‘80s.
A video recording of Dr Peter Berg, Head of special collections at Michigan State University, a contributor to Independent Voices is available here.
Reveal Digital would like to invite UK higher education (HE) institutions to contribute to its Independent Voices collection and expand its scope. Half of the amount pledged by UK HE libraries will go towards the digitisation of UK alternative press content for inclusion in Independent Voices, and UK-pledging libraries will be able to set the content priorities.
Jisc has negotiated pledging and licencing fees for UK HEIs:
Jisc bands 1&2: £5,453
Jisc bands 3&4: £2,727
Jisc bands 5A&5B: £1,801
Jisc bands 6-10: £1,365
(See which Jisc Collections band your institution belongs to here.)
These are one-off contributions and there are no recurrent costs. Half of the amount pledged by UK HE libraries will go towards the digitisation of UK alternative press content for inclusion in Independent Voices, and UK-pledging libraries will be able to set the content priorities.
We will shortly be creating a page on the Jisc Collections web site for institutions to pledge.
In the meantime, if you’re interested in the collection and you would like a trial access to Independent Voices, or for more information, please contact Paola Marchionni AT jisc.ac.uk.
