This blog provides a space for news and views related to the activities of the Jisc Content team, part of the digital resources group. Through a range of activities we hope to explore and develop new models and partnerships for the funding of digital collections to support teaching, learning and research, and to collaborate with colleagues on the promotion and discoverability of digital collections.
Currently we are promoting two major initiatives – Spotlight on the Digital and the UK Medical Heritage Library project.
Spotlight on the Digital aims to identify practical solutions, and to offer advice and guidance to those who produce and maintain digital content for use in learning, teaching and research. The ‘make your digital resources easier to discover’ online guide provides practical guidance on creating and maintaining access to digital materials. Additionally the project is instrumental in piloting training in the area of resource discovery for digitised collections.
UK Medical Heritage Library project is digitising 15 million pages of texts from various institutions to create the largest freely available library of 19th Century medical history. The texts are being made available on a number of platforms including Jisc Historical Texts, the Internet Archive and the Wellcome Digital Library. To complement this major digitisation initiative, plans are underway to innovatively visualise the 15 million images in the Historical texts platform.
