The University for the Creative Arts has campuses at Canterbury, Epsom, Farnham, Maidstone and Rochester and is home to 6,500 students from over 70 countries studying on courses in fashion, graphics, design, media, fine art and architecture.

The Imagio project is a Library and Learning Services project funded by the University to support teaching and learning.

Phase one of the project produced a policy and technical framework for the capture and storage of digital images. The Visual Resources Digitisation Officer will be responsible for the implementation and dissemination of phase two: the creation of a digital still image resource for use by academic staff.

This newly created post provides an exciting opportunity for someone wishing to gain experience in the development of digital image databases within an HE library setting.

It would suit a candidate with initiative who enjoys interacting and liaising with a wide-range of people.

Candidates should have a professional qualification in librarianship or information science with library experience, preferably in the HE sector. Experience of visual resources in a creative HE environment, and digitisation skills would be an advantage, as would a knowledge of copyright and IPR.

AHRC Postgraduate Studentship 2009 – Oxford Internet Institute

An AHRC doctoral studentship is available at the Oxford Internet Institute starting this fall. The studentship provides full fees and maintenance for eligible UK students, or full fees for eligible EU students.

The area of study is Librarianship, Archives and Records Management, which is broadly defined and includes information communities and the use and management of information in all forms and in all contexts; all aspects of archive administration and records management; all aspects of information policy in the information society; information systems; systems thinking; systems development; information retrieval (including interfaces and gateways); preservation and conservation of recorded information including Film archiving.

Vacancy for Digitiation Programme Officer JISC Collections / JISC Executive

Salary: £28,000 to £32,800 depending on experience

JISC Collections negotiates agreements for and acquires online content to support education and research. The key ambition in establishing JISC Collections is to widen accessibility to online resources, to save the academic sector time and money, and to improve management of licensing by the sector.

JISC Collections is undertaking two projects in association with the JISC Digitisation Programme and requires a programme manager to support these projects and ensure that their successful delivery.

You will be required to:

• Support projects funded under the JISC Digitisation Programme’s Enriching Digital Resources call and ensure their successful delivery
• Obtain copyright clearances for content and data delivered via the JISC – funded Vision of Britain project
• Manage specific JISC Collections projects, with special attention to those involving the licensing of digital content
• As part of the JISC e-Content team to report back on project and programme management and share related information

You will need an understanding of the issues related to the digitisation of scholarly resources, such as data capture, resource discovery, rights clearance and usability. In addition an understanding of the issues related to the procurement and provision of online information resources in particular negotiation and licensing.
